I know it eliminates the need to buy chlorine but I spend a lot of money on shock and algaecide and the salt is not free, right?
 With a properly sized chlorine generator, you won't need shock or algaecide and the typical annual cost for salt is $30.00.

My pump and filter are almost new and I don't want to change them.
 A chlorine generator does not replace the pump or filter. With such a mild saline solution, whatever equipment you have now is just fine.

Our water gets really warm and sometimes we get leaves and junk in the pool and algae is one of our problems.
 Chlorine is an excellent algaecide....when applied consistantly like with a chlorine generator. It never forgets.
